The horizon is not so far as we can see, but as far as we can imagine

Slow Posting

I’ve been traveling, thus the light posting. Should be back to a more regular schedule Tuesday or Wednesday. Hope you’ve all been well and enjoying the circus!

Matching Donations Up to $600 to Get Us to the Construction of Reality – REACHED

A patron has generously offered to match donations up to a total of $600. That would be sufficient to push the fundraising drive over nine thousand, meaning I would write the Construction of Reality booklet.

If you can afford to give without hardship, please consider doing so.

I will update this post with running totals so people know how much of the matching offer remains, and kick it back to the top when the matching offer has been exhausted.

Update: And we have a $250 match, so $350 of matching funds remain.

Update 2: Another $220 received, so $130 of matching funds remain.

Update 3: Matching funds have been reached. Thank you all. The booklet will be written.

Fundraising Update: Book Reviews Unlocked, Just over $1,000 to “The Construction of Reality” Booklet

The current fundraising total is $6,105 in one-time donations, and $595 in recurring donations (including ongoing donations from before this drive.) Counting recurring donations at 3X, that means we are at $7,890.

We have achieved the first goal of 18 book reviews. Twelve will be on books important to my understanding of the world such as Jane Jacobs “Economy of Cities,” and the remainder will be on various issues of interest.

We are $1,110 from the e-booklet The Construction of Reality.

I had originally intended to end the fundraiser about now, a month from when it started, but because a number of people have stated they donated hoping for the book, I’m going to hold it open a little longer to see if we can make it.

The booklet will between 30 to 50,000 words, and will discuss how ideology, technology, geography, and other factors create the world in which we live. All donors will receive a copy, and it will be available for others to purchase.

As with all my fundraisers, please don’t give if you are in financial difficulties. Otherwise, remember: Even if you don’t care for the book, the more I receive, the more I will write in general. So if you like my writing, please give.

I’m very happy with how the fundraiser has gone so far. This is the best result of our three fundraisers.

Thank you.

Fundraiser Update and Bitcoin Support

We have raised $4,692 in one time donations and $160 in new subscriptions. Counting subscriptions at 3X, that puts us $5,172.  At six thousand, I will write 12 book reviews on books which have strongly influenced me and six that are more topical.

Should we make $9,000, I will write a thirty- to fifty-thousand word booklet on the Construction of Reality. It will deal with technology, culture, geography, mass psychology, and so on, to show how we’ve created the world we live in today.

In general, the more I receive the more I will write. If you want more of my writing, please consider giving. Of course, only give if you can afford it. If your food, medical, or housing is insecure, please don’t give.

Due to a few requests, I have also added Bitcoin support. My wallet is at:

Fundraiser Update

In ten days, we have raised $3,312 in one-time donations, and $140 in recurring donations. Counting recurring donations at three times, we have raised $3,732

If we reach 6K, I will write 12 reviews about the books which shaped my understanding of the world, and six reviews about books of contemporary interest.

If we reach 9K, I’ll write an e-booklet between 30 and 50K words on The Construction of Reality.

In general, the more I raise, the more I will write.

Sincere thanks to all those who have given.

2016 Fundraiser

I am raising funds for 2016. The more I raise, the more I’ll write.

There are also two specific goals this year:

  1. $6,000: I will write a series of eighteen book reviews. Twelve will be on books which have influenced my political, economic, and social worldview. Six will be more contemporary books about our societies and our future. If readers want me to review particular books, let me know in comments or e-mail me.
  2. $9,000: I will write and release an e-booklet (thirty thousand to fifty thousand words), The Construction of Reality. This book will explain how ideology, technology, geography, and other factors create the world we live in. This book will be free to anyone who donates during the drive (and available to others for a small fee).

You won’t, most likely, be receiving The Construction of Reality cheaper if you donate, mind. You will be ensuring, instead, that I write it. Some content will be familiar to long-time readers, but other ideas will be new and the entire booklet will be put together as a single, coherent piece.

Subscriptions will count triple for both goals.

Live Preview for Comments

I’ve had a number of requests from commenters asking me to provide the ability to preview their comments. That is now possible. Unlike many previews, this one happens as you type, below the comment field, NOT after you press “Submit Comment,” so be sure to check your grammar, links, punctuation, and so on before clicking.

The preview does not show lines between paragraphs. They appear after posting.

Thanks to commenter and past guest-author MarkFromIreland for the suggestion of a preview which runs client-side and not server-side, to keep my hosting company happy.
