The Amount Of Contempt Elites Have For Public Intelligence Is Breathtaking

The latest episode is an attempt to suggest Epstein was working for Russia:

This is ridiculous. Epstein was close friends with the Israeli Prime Ministers. Ghislaine Maxwell’s father Robert Maxwell might have been Israel’s most important spy. Israel’s fingerprints are all over the Epstein files, and there are almost no significant ties to Russia. There’s one email where Epstein tries to coach Trump on how to deal with Putin, and some trafficking ties, though more to Ukraine than to Russia, but they are dwarfed by Israeli ties.

Source

Elites think we’re morons. But hey, why not? I mean the “Trump is a Russian asset” lie worked (he massively increased sanctions on Russia). They lied over 80% of the time about Corbyn, including ridiculous anti-semitism smears, and it worked. They lied about WMD in Iraq, and Iraq ties to 9/11 and it worked. They lied about mass baby murders by Hamas and it worked. They lied about Gazan hospitals being Hamas bases and it worked.

They’re completely used to a plurality to a majority of the population believing their lies, so why not this time?

Are they right? Can they tell us the moon is made of blue cheese and get us to believe it? Perhaps so.

This is one of the reasons why, when I talk about war crimes tribunals I always include the media, who lied and lied and lied to enable genocide, child killing, rape and war. The media is almost entirely captured, certainly every corporate media outlet is little more than a source of propaganda. Truth only peaks out when one part of the elite disagrees with another part of the elite, but if the elites are united, as they were against Corbyn and are for mass murder of mostly children in Gaza, well, the media salutes and falls in line.

As I have said many times, the only way to fix the West and especially America is wholesale replacements of the elites and all their courtiers. No one with a conscience works at the top levels, because if someone has a conscience they can’t do the job.

They all have to go, and to ensure there’s no repeat, most of them need to be tried for their crimes, have everything they have beyond basic subsistence taken from them (they’re why so many people are homeless) and be thrown into prison.

This is is also a matter of simple self-respect from the rest of us. Enough pretending these people aren’t psychopaths who would kill or impoverish anyone if it would earn them a single bent nickel or, in many cases, even if it wouldn’t, because it’s how they get their rocks off.

It’s them or us, and so far it’s mostly been us.

    “Elites think we’re morons.”

That’s just because we mostly are. Get NPR to peddle this line (probably not hard), and I have no doubt most turbolibs will buy it hook, line and sinker. They will believe *anything* of Russia, thanks to Clinton being the worst presidential candidate in US history.

  2. Feral Finster

    1. The Epstein Files will be used as convenient, as a sword to hold over Trump’s fool head, as a way to demonize Putin and to prevent a peaceful resolution to The War On Russia.

Therefore, like the wackadoodle russiagate conspiracy theory. the narrative of Epstein As Secret Russian Agent will be adopted as gospel. That the narrative is equally ridiculous doesn’t matter. What matters is that the narrative is convenient and therefore it will be amplified.

    2. Once upon a time, not so long ago, any development that the establishment of the day didn’t like could automatically be blamed on Jews.

    Crops failed? Because Jews.

Freak storm sank the royal fleet? Everyone knows that Jews not only hate us because we are so noble and kind, Jews also can control the weather.

    Foreign invasion? Machinations of Jews.

King’s eldest son and heir turns out to be a rather flamboyant and barely closeted homosexual? Jews, you silly goose!

No evidence needed. Because Jews. What, are you on their side?

Today’s establishment is far more enlightened. They do not blame unwanted election results and social dissension on Jews. Instead, they blame Russia.

Good post… but lots of errors in word use… ‘they liked about Hamas’… ‘they liked about Gaza…’, Corby (instead of Corbyn)

Indeed, spot-on as usual, Ian. The old joke goes, “Who first discovered water?” Answer, “We’ll nobody knows but it probably wasn’t a fish.” If you swim in something, you don’t see it as separate, and here in the West we are drowning in Elite propaganda/ Hasbara of the most moronic type. And a majority (I’m not going to guesstimate exactly how many) buy it, some for a time, some forever and always.

Finster beat me with point #2 above. The West has demonized Putin for 26 years since he first took power away from the drunken, US and Oligarch-owned Yeltsin who was running Russia further into the ground, as fast as possible. The guy is lawyerly in his thinking, calm, methodical, careful (perhaps too much so) and he slowly righted the ship, drove most of the Oligarchs out and rebuilt a destroyed state (not alone). As NATO edged closer and closer he built up the military science and defense, biding his time, until in Feb. 2022 Russia was ready to push back. What could enrage the “West”, insane ghouls like Lindsay Graham, “We’ah gonna cut Russia into dozens of pieces and get 27 trillion $ worth of resources for US (meaning his class, nothing for the peons except maybe for the front-line soldiers who can rape, steal, etc.)”

He MUST die!! They project all of their own overt Evil onto him. Yes, just as Finster said anything bad he is at the root of, “Satan” Incarnate!!

We know what the likes of Clinton, Trump, Hillary “We came, we saw he died! Hahyuck ha!” are, looters like Marc Andreesen or mass-murdering surveillance fascists at Palantir. I mention the latter two as there was a tape made a decade or more back of Epstein advising former Izzy PM Ehud Barack to invest with Palantir and Andreesen long ago. They weren’t doing well by doing good, they were making out by doing Evil. It pays quite well.

What is the “Putin directed Epstein” canard based on? Tusk of Poland first to spew this pure shit, there is one non-existent thread here– There is one set of emails from Sir Peter Mandelson of the UK sent from a “Rave” in Russia, Epstein asked him “Is it a gay thing?” and got the reply, no, he’s at a “rave” with Techno music and male and female models . . . Now Mandelson is scum who helped oust Corbyn, gave Brit secrets to his “friend” Jeffrey and is completely scummy going back to the 80s. He’s not a Russian agent by any means.

A 2nd reason for the Western “leaders” pants-wetting hysteria is their own stupidity, which is epic. (Probably marginally less than the people who believe the lies on MSDNC, Fox “news” etc. of course.) Just look at how they are deep in the hole of sanctions against Russia, impoverishing and deindustrializing themselves, imagining some great future “Victory” against the Red Orcs. See Germany specifically.

Macron close to Epstein, Mandelson, Alan Dershowitz, even frigging Noam Chomsky (who became “friends” with Steve Bannon through Epstein.) The actual collaborators are well-known. Okay, I mentioned Fidel Castro in a recent post, they might’ve got Compromat on him, but he was sleeping with Justin Trudeau’s mother around the time Justin was conceived, not with some Slavic cuties, also with Bianca Jagger possibly, these people had Key parties, at least not often pedophiliac. Rolling Stones on the road, underage activity certainly.

Here’s one more great link recently shared that shows Epstein worked for who we know he did, not the Russians nor the “inscrutable” Chinese. There was one email from Epstein to somebody where he deprecated the Chinese leadership as “Peasants.” That’s how stupid these people are, they live and think according to the stupidest prejudices and stereotypes.

They are desperate. “Witch! Witch!” “Reds under my Bed!! Help Mommy!”

Just sad and pathetic. Jordan Peterson some years back plagiarized some semi-obscure Classical source, saying “If you fear the rule of Strong Men, you should even more fear the rule of Weak Men”, meaning their insecurities would make them even more irrational and self-destructive. Now Donald Trump is not a legit Strong Man, he is a miserable old Queen full of resentment and self-pity that not everyone loves him. Stephen Miller, a bald homunculus who channels Herman Goering . . .

Did Bill Clinton “serve” the Empire at war? Trump? These clowns are weak and delusional. They are MacBeth like characters, implicated in a web of evil that at some point will blow back at them (after blowing back on their domestic victims, who at some point will start to wake up as their lives turn increasingly to hunger, cold, and shit.)

Oh if you want Slavs connected to Epstein, Zionism and child-trafficking via other Elites, perhaps you should look into Zelensky, or Erica Kirk’s reported trafficking of children from Romania via a “charitable, Christian” organization.

I don’t believe in God or the Devil, but some people are full-on Satanic. Some are mentally ill, others are respectable but revel in others’ destruction, psychopaths. That the leadership class, CEOs etc. are highly made up of sociopaths and psychopaths is widely known. See Ayn Rand, a “Libertarian” cult which for decades debated whether parents could “sell their children into slavery”, as everything is property, human Life has no value in the sacred Market. That’s Late, Toxic Capitalism all the way.

Corbyn, right time, wrong man, much like bernie. his own worst enemy, and a appeaser. he was for a second vote on brexit, stabbing his voters in the back.

he even took advise from blair, bernie, my friend joe.

labor lost because of blairs policies. voters hated thatcher, but they hated blair even more. just as democrats lost and greased the skids for trump.

corbyns loss was because of free trade and open borders, economic suicide. those were the policies of the third Reich.

the E.U. was fashioned by WWII fascist war criminals.

    https://americanaffairsjournal.org/2019/12/momentum-lost-surveying-the-fractured-british-left/

“Despite what the Right wants us to believe, the 2019 election was not a defeat of Corbyn and his left-wing economic ideas. Despite what the woke Left wants us to believe, the election result should not primarily be discussed with reference to age—and we should certainly not imagine that generational change will make their ideas more popular. Instead, what we have seen is a realignment. The North East of England did not vote Conservative because they had suddenly embraced the free market. It is far more likely that they associate Brexit with an end to free trade and free movement of people—two forces they see as pressing particularly hard on their communities.

The 2019 election in Britain was the first British election that was determined by a new type of culture war. That war was fought over Brexit but both sides knew that “Brexit” was a synonym for a number of different ideas—some of them economic, like free trade; some of them cultural, like the domination of our culture by “woke” activists; and some of them in between, like open borders which is justified by woke politics but the effects of which are primarily economic.”

    https://www.counterpunch.org/2019/12/16/brexit-and-the-collapse-of-british-labour-a-post-mortem-on-the-uk-election/

“There are no doubt several reasons why British voters handed Labour its defeat and opened the door again, now even wider, to Boris Johnson to leave the European Union. The election shows that a large number of voters still wanted to leave the EU, despite three and a half years of British Parliamentary maneuvering and delay.

Another voter block that weren’t so sure of leaving the EU perhaps probably voted conservative because they just wanted to ‘get the damn thing over with’. Three and half years of debate and parliamentary maneuvers since the original 2016 Brexit vote have left many disgusted with the political efforts of the British elite to block the 2016 democratic vote of the will of the majority in the country.

Another short term factor in the election outcome no doubt is that Johnson cleverly manipulated voter sentiment with promises he would protect–and even expand–social programs, add more government spending, end austerity, save the health service, etc. That’s a cynical tactic directly out of the Trump playbook.

Another factor probably was the slanderous business-media campaign to depict Corbyn and the Labour party as anti-semitic. As in the US with Trump, manipulating the ‘jewish vote’ and painting Corbyn-Labour as discriminating, or even racist, played a role in Boris’ victory. Corbyn and Labour fell for the ploy and spent too much time defending against it, instead of pushing their own proposals more forcefully.

They were caught off guard and didn’t know how to respond, and did so only after losing valuable time. Of course, having the capitalist media and press running interference on the issue on behalf of Boris and the Conservatives didn’t help either.

As in France in support of Macron, British capitalists rallied and united together against Corbyn, terrified that if he and Labour won it would mean the re-nationalization of industries long privatized under British Neoliberalism since the 1980s.

Finally, Labour’s strategy was itself equivocating at times and on a number of fronts insufficiently differentiating from the Conservatives. In many voters minds, especially youth, Labour was viewed as still the junior partner in pro-business Neoliberal policies and not to be fully trusted. The legacies of Blair and Gordon continue to haunt the part (just as Clinton and Obama do in the USA for the Democrats).”

“The Tony Blairs and Bill Clintons are today multi-millionaires serving on corporate boards and as business consultants being nicely rewarded for their past services. But they traded that role and personal gain for the the living standards of their working class members.”

there looks to be a power struggle in china, that might be neo-liberal driven.

either you drive them out like what franklin/paine advocated for and were partially successful, or what stalin and Moa did, otherwise millions are ready to step into the vacated shoes of a clinton/blair type.

under FDR and Truman, a lot of leeches and parasites went to jail.

I always suspected that Trump was beholden to Putin because the likelihood (as the man has no self-control at all) that he had sex with minors in Russia while attending beauty pageants in Moscow. Mind you, in Russia like in many (most?) countries, having sex with a 16 year is legal, but in 1987 (I believe) Congress passed a law setting the minimum age for any sexual contact at 18 for US travelers no matter what the local law was.

Said law also criminalized anyone traveling between states within the US. If someone who was 18 or older who crossed a state line and had sex with someone under 18 in another state, even if the sex was legal in that state (many states set the age at 16), then that person could be charged under this law. It did not matter even if the sex would be legal IN BOTH STATES (say, North Carolina and South Carolina both set the age at 16). Moreover, the Federate law had no statute of limitations, unlike state laws regulating this. That alone would put Trump in legal liability for his lifetime.

So Putin could have set him up too, using a hotel with cameras. It wouldn’t be the first time sexual blackmail has been used. I’ve heard stories that the corporate foes of Ralph Nader tried to set him up for blackmail, first with women and then with men (after the women didn’t work, they figured he might be gay). Of course the excuse for considering being gay to be a security risk was the supposed blackmail possibility, which is a helluva kind of circular thinking–a sexual orientation and/or practices should be discriminated against because such a person would be more likely to be blackmailed, because we discriminate against such people.

Of course, the two possibilities aren’t mutually exclusive. Trump could have been guilty in Moscow and also guilty via his liaisons with Epstein; if so I personally suspect there’s no connection at all between these transgressions. I too seriously doubt that Epstein was at all connected to Russia. A like Trump who person blurts out angry threats and tweets at 3 am in the morning while President of the US obviously doesn’t have a lot of self-control

Epstein Files: Putin says Zelensky is run by Israelis

    https://www.wionews.com/world/epstein-files-ukraine-zelensky-putin-overthrow-claims-1769942846783

Putin of course has never said this publicly.

There is a substantial Chabad Lubavitch network inside Russia and it no doubt coordinates at higher levels with other Zionist-Jewish Supremacist entities the world over.

The fact that nobody in a serious position of power inside Russia has ever utterred the words ‘ethnic cleansing’ in relation to occupied Palestine – let alone the word ‘genocide’ – this fact is a red flag and speaks volumes.

There are a few million Jewish Russians – Russian Jews – inside ‘Israel’ and given that a solid ninety percent or more of the ‘Israeli’ population supports the genocide The Jewish State is carrying out that means most of these particular ‘Israelis’ or ‘Russians’ or ‘Jews’ or ‘people of the Jewish tradition but also from Russia and Russian ‘ or whatever the personal identity may be…this means they also support the genocide.

Epstein files: Ex-Israeli PM urged Putin to send ‘one million’ Russians to dilute Palestinian presence

‘Barak says the earlier wave of Russian immigration in the 1990s and early 2000s “changed Israel in a dramatic manner”, adding that “young… girls who can’t talk” also came, with Epstein heard chuckling in the background.

In the Epstein files, it is revealed that many young women – particularly from Russia – who have been reported as unable to speak English were trafficked to rich and powerful people.’

Note that almost all of this happened on Putin’s watch. In fact, Epstein was most active during this time (early 2000’s onward).

Russian derangement syndrome (US) — causes:

    1. Hillary Clinton’s 2016 loss to Trump was humiliating. Rather than own it as her failure, she and her crew pinned it on Russia rigging the election for Trump.

    2. Hillary’s weepy “with her” women fans — gutted by the defeat — gulped it down. From then on, they despised Putin and Russia for robbing a WOMAN the White House.

    3. Democrats dodged a real autopsy on Hillary’s flops and their hated neoliberal schtick. Russia-hating became their official cop-out and party gospel: if you don’t hate Russia, then you must be MAGA and evil.

    Diagnosis:

    1. Elite loss trauma: 2016 shattered the belief that women power + cultural dominance guaranteed power.

    2. Identity threat: Losing to Trump wasn’t just losing an election—it was losing to the wrong kind of people.

    3. Moral outsourcing: Blame external evil → avoid confronting:
    • Neoliberal hollowing-out
    • Cultural alienation
    • Voter contempt
    • Candidate weakness

Once a group moralizes failure, it stops learning.

Democrats hooked on the Russia boogeyman to dodge responsibilities for their 2016 flop. Blind hate ever since.

Notes: The EU variant of Russian derangement syndrome has a different set of causes and diagnoses.

  10. NR

corbyns loss was because of free trade and open borders, economic suicide. those were the policies of the third Reich.

spud: This is just flat-out wrong. Point 8 of the NSDAP 25 points says “8. Any further immigration of non-Germans must be prevented. We demand that all non-Germans who have entered Germany since August 2, 1914, shall be compelled to leave the Reich immediately.”

  11. Bob

The majority of the public are both thick and indifferent to the nature of the power structures that govern them.
I think we all have psychological defence mechanisms against acknowledging scary aspects of reality and in general people can’t handle the idea that they are helpless slaves in a brutal, genocidal system run by paedos.
But then I would aay that because I’m dark and pessimistic and maybe even a misanthrope haha.

  12. As I have said many times, the only way to fix the West and especially America is wholesale replacements of the elites and all their courtiers. No one with a conscience works at the top levels, because if someone has a conscience they can’t do the job.

My guess is you will censor this comment too but oh well, I will give it a shot. This latest post directly follows a post where you rub it in our faces that we deserve the pain and suffering at the hands of American elites because we sat and watched as they gave it all away to China and now the chickens have come home to roost. You boasted that this is China’s century. That sounds rather definitive. It’s a done deal. Entropy only has one direction. There is no going back. Considering that, this is tantamount to beating a dead horse, in my humble opinion. America, and by virtue of that the West entirely considering the 21st century belongs to China hands down as you claim, is a dead man walking. It’s over. Finished. There is no going back. Why clamor for it at all?

I don’t subscribe to your notion that the 21st century belongs to China. Yes, for now, in my humble opinion once again, China is the top dog but that is a rather tragically comic designation considering civilization will more than likely collapse entirely by the end of the 21st century and perhaps much sooner. When humans are no more, notions such as last man standing are laughable at best and pathetic at worst.

Elites EVERYWHERE have to go. Lenin understood this before the apparatus he helped kick start became elitist itself and murdered millions upon millions. I said it before and I will say it again, there are no good guys anywhere on the face of this planet when it comes to elites and politicians and leaders. They’re ALL equally bad and they have all failed in their own right. If America and Americans managed to miraculously, and I say miraculously because it will never happen and I mean NEVER, overrun the elite and bring them to justice, if I were part of it and had any influence in it, we would not stop there. No sir. All the heads of the hydra must be lopped off and that means the global elite everywhere must be deposed and brought to justice and that justice should be messy, nay gruesome. ALL of them are guilty of massive crimes against humanity and they ALL should pay for their sins.

In the comment that you censored in the previous post, I highlighted that it is estimated that China executes thousands of people per year. China has a broad death penalty meaning you can be executed for many crimes and one of them is corruption. Many here and elsewhere have said that is a good thing. Fair enough. I won’t necessarily disagree, ALL things considered, but why stop at corruption? Why not extend it to ALL elite everywhere? To be an elite anywhere, you have taken a sacred oath to engage in crimes against humanity. You have made it your obligation. To you as an elite, the unwashed are expendable and always have been. The unwashed are, and always have been, a means to an end whether you are Rockefeller and Morgan or Stalin and Mao. Whether you are Obama and Trump or Deng and Xi. Whether you are Biden or Putin. Whether you are Bibi or MBS and on and on the list goes.

If Americans miraculously deposed the American elite who hold Americans captive and use the unwashed Americans as an expendable means to an end, then it should not end there. ALL elites everywhere MUST be vanquished WITHOUT exception.

    Viva la Revolución

  13. Carborundum

I don’t think Maxwell should be characterized as Israel’s greatest spy. There are too many assets who were vastly more important to the survival of the state of Israel at various points for that to hold true. (Most important spy for selling books to an early 21st century audience, maybe.) He was definitely an important “friend of Israel” and was involved in areas where it makes some sense that he would have been run as an asset (I would not have wanted that job – very loose cannon), but I suspect that is at least partly a reflection of how Israel runs things, with Mossad as the PM’s very responsive executive action arm.

Less tangentially, having watched this for some time from a range of distances and perspectives, I would say that for the vast majority of those participating it’s not so much an issue of psychopathy (in a clinical sense) as it is having systems evolve making it very easy to be blind to the consequences of actions. It’s not that one has to be willfully blind to consequences, one actually has to go to particular effort to be willfully *aware* of the consequences of any given decision. Any elucidation of likely negative outcomes is immediately met with a range of assertions downplaying not just the decision at hand, but the utility of looking at that dimension of the decision at all – beyond scope, issue not truly linked to the decision taken, not the responsibility of the bodies involved, not possible to address in any case, natural order of the universe, sunspots, etc. etc. Overall, system-wide, the ratio of psychos to soma-drinkers is surprisingly low.

Conscience is much more the issue. However, in the modern dis-intermediated world, conscience isn’t exactly having an easy go of it. The number of folks making decisions who have seen consequences, and particularly the potential, of alternatives first- or even second-hand is really, really low. Even the number who have had exposure to people not part of the monoculture is on the decline. That is, I think, one of the key differences between today and the earlier post-WW II era.

  14. Ian Welsh

As I often say, they may not be clinically psychopaths, but they function as if they were psychopaths, so for the general member of the public the difference is slight though obviously if it’s mostly system issues, that does offer some hope of fixes.

The elite is also very insular now, there aren’t a lot of people coming into without going thru it: in the US, for example, the vast majority of journalists at the important outlets went to the Ivy League. Fifty years ago that wasn’t the case.

And as you (Carborundum) have pointed out in the past, most of them have little to no non-political experience and if they do it’s things like being on the board of a company or parachuted in at the top. They don’t know how the world actually operates.

Much as I disliked my time at the megacorp, it was invaluable to me. I would understand much less if I’d never worked there and watched the political games, worked in compliance, seen a corporate merger and so on. Likewise all the shit jobs I worked in my 20s helped form my worldview: there’s nothing like working shit jobs and thinking that’s all you’ll ever do to give one a bit of compassion.

  15. Mark Level

Lots of worthy comments, but Dan Kelly’s link to WION viz Zelensky wins the prize for relevance. Of course the Z-Man Comedian was begging for Epstein access even before his election, he knew exactly who the Globalist Powers That Be were, wanted a place at the table– even a subordinate place as a puppet.

He’s always been a Zio/Israeli Stooge. Back before his first (& 2nd) big Armies funded by the West were fully destroyed (halfway there once Russians took Bakhmut, another gone by now, see MoonofAlabama generally) he boasted Ukraine would be “Big Israel” in the region, ethnically cleansing the area per the ideology of Stepan Bandera, Deutsche and Ukrainians the “Chosen People”, Russians, Poles, Romanians, Hungarians etc. to be exterminated in the name of racial superiority (imagined). It was never going to happen, but he was snorting lots of good coke and jetting around to massive applause as the “modern Churchill” among the Globalist Capitals at the time, hob-nobbing with Sean Penn (very surprised he’s not an Epstein pal) and the likes, world’s highest paid actor. A boy’s gotta dream, right?

Dan’s point about the 3 million Russian Jews inside Israel is relevant as well. There is some divided loyalty there that is like a Cancer in the Russian Body Politic, and it goes beyond Putin to others in the leadership class. If China really is the big dog pushing Russia around (this seems a bit simplistic to me, China the economic power, Russia the military one) they might want to try to mitigate this. As with Kalla Kallas and her ranting about Russian subhuman orcs, I have no doubt that the Israelis see Chinese as sub-humans vying for power they don’t deserve. Just as the Zionist project for over a century has been to exterminate the actual Semites (Ashkenazi Jews from Russia, Poland, Romania etc. are a Turkic Northern people for the most part, nothing to do with Semites or the historical Jews of the Levant, mass-conversion for political reasons in the 14th century. Some are additionally Slavic, clearly, as well.)

Best laugh of the thread, I want to thank Spud for the swill from “Leontias Xenophilos” (that name suggests he imagines he’s an immortal Ancient Sage, perhaps one of Madame Blavatsky’s immortal Ascended Masters?) in “American (sic) Affairs.” Not sure who the Villains in the opening pic are, nor the “revolutionary” (or counter-revolutionary?) mob they are slashing with swords are . . . Incoherent through and through. The funniest coincidence for me is highlighting the “activist” (really just a Woke Media wanna-be) Ash Sarkar as central to Corbyn’s defeat. I know her as one of the idiot “sages” of Novara Media, which started out pretending to be a Communist Prosperity for All cult, devolved into a British psuedo-Left “Let’s invade and crush the Russian bug” Cheerleading session.

The surprise of Trump’s first term (incoherent through and through, maybe lucky, had Mrs. Clinton held the reins of power the War on Russia would’ve started years earlier, and she would’ve gladly nuked the entire planet to “Get Putin”) led to lots of Alt.Right (crypto-fascist) online Pundits, many using pretentious Ancient Wise Man handles like Leontias. They’re still around, Batia Ungar Sargon, a MAGA-Ultra-Zionist who professes her undying defense of the White Working Class (her real name actually) and others, there was a “Sargon the Akkadian” in the early crew.

Speaking of dumb, all the tears L&S sheds over the poor Chinese prisoners in the Gulag might be better directed toward the victims of the American Carceral State, but I guess “la Revolucion” he believes in is about attacking outside “enemies.” USA has had the world’s biggest prison population since at least the 1950s, beat Apartheid South Africa out by miles, still the same, but “Yawn” always easier to hate the furriners, right? A little too MAGA-adjacent for me.

As the prophet said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Always easier to hate and blame the Other, so that no “Revolution” ever comes.

Crime tribunals is a ridiculous daydream. As it is, it’s impossible. When it’s possible, it will be unnecessary.

Mamdani has shown how one may win – fight for a program that makes life a little better. It’s better to organize this than to organize some kind of revenge that will be superfluous when it is possible to achieve it.

Loosing power will be the worst punishment possible to mete out to these people in any case.

On a personal note, I am making progress on my journey away from social media. Persuading X-twitter to delete my accounts to delete my accounts proved almost as difficult as persuading myself.

I have always been a news junkie, but my addiction became significantly less satisfying as the information vacuum intensified. It took awhile for me to realize that the rising flood tide of propaganda was creating a vacuum — even at the level of lame metaphor, a “flood” creating a “vacuum” doesn’t make much physical sense I suppose.

In the early days of the internet, when blogs flowered, I was encouraged by the fashion for the analysis of narrative. Remember the Daily Howler? He went after the lazy way political reporters followed simple scripts while doing mind-numbing “analysis” of Presidential campaigns and candidates. The New York Times, stung by valid criticism, got an ombudsman (er, “public editor”) and so did the Washington Post. Digby? Very subtle and insightful analysis of how subliminal suggestion was conveyed to people who gleaned headlines and two-minute teevee opinions. Kos attacked the Democratic consultant class who controlled “messaging”. Atrios ridiculed Tom “six months” Friedman and his lame “flat earth” metaphors. I loved Stirling Newberry, who somehow conveyed the sense that he was wearing spats, while doing sweeping historical context. The Washington Post had a blog on their website called White House Briefing (or something like that) that did meta commentary on press releases from the White House and the lame way the reporters in the actual Briefing Room reported them. Those were the days, my friends, we thought they would never end — or at least would end better than Obama.

I remember a UCLA professor 35? years ago telling me a theory of revolution based on events in Iran when the Shah was overthrown and in Romania when Ceaușescu was overthrown. The theory was one of a suddenly crystallizing consensus — a moment when when enough people “in a crowd” looked right and left and realized in a moment that other people, too, were ready to shed belief in lies enforced by fear. Or something like that. I am probably not saying it well. But, something like that happened in Romania where the regime assembled a huge crowd to hear a speech by the dictator, who had done absurd and often horrifyingly irrational and immoral things for years and years and gotten no effective resistance, and the crowd and guards alike spontaneously revolted. I suppose I believed that narrative or at least in the possibility.

I expect lots of people believed in the power of something like a higher consciousness taking over and governing politics after the Soviet Union collapsed. It was hopelessly naive in a way. I remember a spontaneous college classroom discussion of the implications when the Iran-Contra scandal was revealed near the end of the Reagan Administration. Half the students could not seem to grasp just how stupid Oliver North’s scheme was for defying Congress in order to overcharge Iran for weapons they were not suppose to sell at all in order to finance arms sales to Nicaragua rebels that were also illegal. The greater significance turned out to be that the ability of Congress to constrain the secret state was broken. And, though it is not often recognized with fatuous talk of the “Imperial Presidency”, so was the ability of a President to even know what the secret state was doing, let alone rationalize policy.

I am an idealist with a fair tolerance for abstraction and I often struggle to understand why most people are not, even if only for selfish reasons of desiring personal safety. But, I recognize that the world is messy and strict ideals can be brittle and impractical. Law is not something that humans are all that good at making work well. We want the rules to be simple and absolute and then we do not want the rules to apply to us. We set a reasonable speed limit and most everyone drives just a bit faster.

I bring this up, because, in addition to the information vacuum, I have noticed the emergence of moralistic narrative as a lifestyle choice. In blog days, I thought the meta insights about narrative would lead most people to become less susceptible to propaganda, to WMD, but it didn’t seem to work out. We got Trump Derangement Syndrome and Ukrainian flags posted on Instagram accounts and personal pronoun preferences.

People are ambivalent about everything and that is a substrate to politics. It is not politically healthy for people to passionately act as if those “other” people are evil “fascists” whose only motivation is “racist” and evil and “we” have the franchise on pure goodness. Democracy becomes impossible when it is no longer possible to deliberate and agree to disagree on a lot while still acting coherently. Ian rails against American elites as the fount of all evil and I don’t necessarily disagree entirely, but I think what we’re seeing is the collective Freudian Id being exposed by the inability collectively to assemble common rationality — to model and elevate prudent, rational political leadership. American politics has lost its frontal cortex. Individually, I expect Americans are mostly OK, albeit cynical and demoralized, though a fair number seem enveloped in either passionate intensity or smug ignorance or both. The ability of governing elites and their media lackeys to maintain a narrative line even in the face of overwhelming evidence is kept intact by the information vacuum and corruption of the remaining tiny very thin layer of journalists and handful of independent politicians. I cannot help but see the situation as brittle and fragile, which I suspect is a nearly universal perception.

    Spot on.
But I’d like to point out that the public needs constant education about *why* they “Can [ ] tell us the moon is made of blue cheese and get us to believe it.”

No post is complete without educating the public about human’s vulnerability to heuristic simplification and implicit biases. Social psychology is *the* weapon the elite deploy to get the masses to do their bidding.

Every post should append the following:

**Human heuristic vulnerabilities are systematic errors in judgment resulting from the mind’s reliance on mental shortcuts (heuristics) to make fast, efficient decisions under uncertainty. While these “rules of thumb” are adaptive and save cognitive energy, they often lead to suboptimal, irrational, or biased decisions by ignoring critical information.

    Key heuristic vulnerabilities include:

Availability Heuristic: People overestimate the probability of events that are easily remembered, such as vivid media reports or recent experiences, rather than relying on statistical evidence.

Representativeness Heuristic: Individuals categorize people or situations based on how closely they resemble a mental prototype, often ignoring base rates and statistical probabilities.

Anchoring and Adjustment: A heavy reliance on the first piece of information received (the “anchor”) when making decisions, with insufficient adjustments for subsequent information.

Confirmation Bias: The tendency to seek, interpret, and focus on information that confirms existing beliefs while ignoring contradictory evidence.
Affect Heuristic: Allowing current emotions, moods, or “gut feelings” to dictate decisions, particularly in risk assessment (e.g., perceiving high-benefit items as low-risk).

Fundamental Attribution Error: A tendency to attribute others’ behaviors to internal, personality-based factors rather than situational factors.

Satisficing: Selecting the first option that meets a minimum threshold of criteria rather than spending time to find the optimal solution. **

Without being educationally steeped in these expoitations, everyone just rolls their eyes and thinks “Yeah, that doesn’t apply to me. I’m smarter than that.” Which, in itself is the “fundamental attribution error” heuristic at play.

One can just assume that any person who isn’t willing to acknowledge the foregoing has, as Zach de la Rocha put it so succinctly “A bullet in their head.”

Ah yes, the “let child rapists get away with their crimes” stance. After all, it’s impossible to actually get them to trials, so we should just let it go, who cares about all those kids being raped.

As for genocide, well, shit, no big deal.

If they lose power, that’s enough, it won’t make other elites think “hey, I can get away with child rape and genocide.”

    Amazing.

You have author privileges, if you want to write a post on heuristic vulnerability to propaganda, well, break a leg.

    “heuristic vulnerability to propaganda”

I see the words, but what does the phrase mean? I am clueless.

  22. Eric Anderson

    True.
I could, if I didn’t have 10 clients I’m not getting to because of my caseload and already writing 10,000 legal words a day.

And, the comment isn’t pointed specifically at you Ian. But, everyone writing to make a difference in the world today. One article doesn’t do it. Everyone needs to be doing it to flood the zone. To, take advantage of the very same availability heuristic the billionaires do.

I get, if I’m lucky, 1hr in the morning with my coffee to check the news and drive by sites like yours. The rest is consumed by work and being an engaged Dad. I made my choices in life. Here, I am.

    https://www.huffpost.com/entry/nationalism-is-rising-not_b_10281138

“Fascism differs from nationalism in two profound ways. First, fascists did not consider self-determination a universal right. Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Francisco Franco, to mention three obvious fascists, only endorsed nationalism for Germany, Italy and Spain. The rights of other nations to a nation-state of their own was, at best, unclear to the fascists.

In a very real sense, Hitler and Mussolini believed in multinationalism, albeit with other nations submitting to their will. Fascism was an assault on the right of nations to pursue their self-interest, and an elevation of the fascists’ right to pursue it based on an assertion of their nations’ inherent superiority and right to rule. ”

many over look the fact that the voters hated thatcher/reagan, but they hated clinton/blair, schroeder types even more.

the clinton types are viewed as traitors by voters. corbyn was a fool, he did not understand that. same with bernie.

when sherrod brown ran for re-election in ohio in 2024, he did not hear how bad voters hated reagan, what he heard was how bad voters hated clinton. and that hatred has spanned the generations.

same thing in canada, who do the voters hate more, brian mulroney who sent you down this path of neo-liberalism, or justin t. who actually carried it out with gusto like what he did to the truckers.

it not because justin is fresh in their minds, its that justin did what brian did not do, brian may have wanted to, but for many reasons he did not. but justin did.

Have some respect for the host and the rules of engagement.

Fyi, to those tuned in and who are paying attention, I think most of you grokked my point. The caveat to my entire comment to which this person is responding, in no uncertain terms, is that there will be no revolution so me heraldking revolution at the end is sarcasm. My comment is predicated on “if there was” but the “if” part is impossible.

Anyone who reads my comment earnestly knows the above italicized attack is a complete misrepresentation and mischaracterization. It’s shameful and it only serves to preclude respectful and thoughtful discussion.

I think this is a place where those of us more practiced in critical thinking and examination can be available to assist and foster those in our lives who are more vulnerable to propaganda. I remember being quite vulnerable as a child, but I have gotten more skeptical as an adult, whereas I’ve met adults who’ve displayed a level of gullibility that felt familiar from when I was young. Not everyone is interested in learning discernment, but for those who are on the cusp of it, we can nudge them and encourage their questions.

And for those of us with at least some critical thinking skills, our vulnerability is in thinking that we now have it all figured out and cannot be manipulated. Not so! We are all on a spectrum and I doubt any social primate is truly impervious.

  27. Mark Level

L&S– Who is Harold King? And have you ever done anything to oppose the American Carceral State? Why do you go on ad nauseum about China when you (nor I) don’t pay taxes there and are not responsible for their sins (if any)? Sorry if referencing Rabbi Yeshua offended you.

Thanks for the rules-policing. What about when you accused me of profiting from my Pension’s War Profits? For the record, I’m not Gavin Newsom and I don’t control where the California State Teachers Retirement system invests. I did not run to Ian seeking censorship of such an absurd ad hominem, because I am an adult, and most people will see right thru that. Also as an “extreme” Lefty who might actually be in favor of revolution, I welcome the hatred of certain people. You are entitled, I called you out more than once, so hate on me all you wish. I don’t seek to censor that. (The statements questioning your masculinity by another commenter were wrong, & I did not support nor comment on those.)

I was really here to share something relevant to the thread however, which is the following I just learned from Due Dissidence. On the Senate floor, Ted Cruz, responding to calls for bipartisanship from Cory Booker (a sold-out, Corporatist Union-buster, and enthusiast for the genocide of Palestinians) by saying, “Let’s stop attacking pedophiles”, and then did not correct his “mistake.”

Can’t make this stuff up, incredible.

I had remembered ‘satisfice’ to have a different meaning than what Eric Anderson tells us so I looked it up and Eric Anderson is exactly right.

I had thought it had meant to try carrying out two ( or maybe more) conflicting goals at the same time and achieving a poor average between them. I remember someone once telling me a story of when he was a cook and had a bunch of waitresses all demanding him to: ” do it right. do it now. Do it Right. Do it Now. DO it RIGHT. DO it NOW. DO IT RIGHT! DO IT NOW! ” I had thought the word for that was satisfice.

So now I wonder what the word for that would be.

L&S, there was nothing rules-violating or ad-hominem in how Mark Level suggested your argument is “dumb” for consistently exhibiting certain blind spots that just-so-happen to gel well with certain rightist/imperialistic/fascistic persuasions. The well-spoken aplomb with which he does it, I find rather enjoyable to read. A nice palate cleanser to your righteous sound and fury indicating not-much.

Also, your imploring us to have “respect for the host” would fall less flat if you didn’t open your post by accusing him of censoring your previous post, and expecting more of the same for your upcoming post. Less self-importance and more self-awareness would go far here.

Your point about elites all being bad by virtue of being elites would at least point in the direction of something useful if you distinguished between those who improve conditions for the masses, and those that don’t. But then that would run into the intellectual blinders preventing you from seeing such a difference, as pointed out by Mr. Level and others.

In a very real sense, Hitler and Mussolini believed in multinationalism, albeit with other nations submitting to their will

Not unless ones interprets “submitting to their will” mean “allowing you to murder all of us.”

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generalplan_Ost

The Generalplan Ost (German pronunciation: [ɡenəˈʁaːlˌplaːn ˈɔst]; lit. ’Master Plan for the East’), abbreviated GPO, was Nazi Germany’s plan for the settlement and “Germanization” of captured territory in Eastern Europe, involving the genocide, extermination and large-scale ethnic cleansing of Slavs, Eastern European Jews, and other indigenous peoples of Eastern Europe categorized as “Untermenschen” in Nazi ideology. The campaign was a precursor to Nazi Germany’s planned colonisation of Central and Eastern Europe by Germanic settlers, and it was carried out through systematic massacres, mass starvations, chattel labour, mass rapes, child abductions, and sexual slavery.”

    …..

“The main objective of Generalplan Ost was to establish a community in Eastern Europe composed exclusively of individuals classified as German and Aryan, who would serve as loyal subjects of the Greater Germanic Reich. Full implementation of the plan called for the forced deportation of hundreds of millions of Eastern European inhabitants beyond the Ural Mountains, as well as the killing of more than 60 million Slavs, Romanis and Jews. The plan included the policy known as the Hunger Plan, which aimed to cause the deaths of more than 30 million Slavic inhabitants through deliberate starvation.

The plan also envisaged the removal of approximately 80 million Russians beyond the Urals, with estimates by Nazi planners suggesting that around 30 million would die during the process due to forced displacement and lack of resources. These measures formed part of a broader policy to reorganise the population structure of Eastern Europe by significantly reducing or eliminating existing populations and repopulating the territory with groups deemed suitable by Nazi ideological criteria.”

To some of us, this demonstrates clearly that nationalism is a sickness, a disease. Both because it causes people to deny the humanity of our fellow human beings and refusing to see how much they are like us, and (even worse) often resulting in elevating the most horrible people to leadership roles and preferring those people who are “like us” instead of GOOD people “not like us” as a leaders.

The US WWII bomber channel on Youtube (I highly recommend) had a video on aerial tactics that US fighters and bombers could use to lower losses, based on interviews of CAPTURED LUFTWAFFE fighter pilots who gave this information. This cause a lot of channel ‘chatter’, so to speak on whether these Luftwaffe pilots were “traitors” to have told their American captors this information.

While I suspect that some of this information “slipped out”, I also think that a lot of it was given willingly and knowingly. Germany was losing the war, Hitler was never popular (he only got c. 32 % of the vote in a free and fair election, and there were more than 40 attempts on his life, mostly by Germans), and it was the simple recognition that Hitler was a bad or evil man, that he was prolonging Germany’s suffering, that an Allied victory would stop the death and destruction. In short, “better someone like FDR (a foreigner) be calling the shots for our defeated country than a native son like Hitler”.

I see this as a completely rational and humane assessment, and “patriotic” in the best sense of the word.

your response was correct. that is why national differs from fascism. if you look at free trade, which the fascists embraced, it was all totally on their terms. and its plain to see that from 1993 on wards today.

bill clinton was not popular either, he never got attained a majority vote, and look at what he did to us.
