The horizon is not so far as we can see, but as far as we can imagine

Ontario Liberals Win

They are fundamentally a right wing party, and their leader is a serial liar about important policy issues.  But, at the end of the day, the NDP did not want to win.  If they had wanted to win they would have promised a referendum on repealing the HST.  They refused to do so, they chose to run as liberal light “no new income taxes” and so they lost.  If Ontarians want to be lied to about taxes, they can vote Liberal.

As for Horwath, she needs to go.  Does not have what it takes.

Turnout for this election was also a pathetic under 50%. Not surprising when the general feeling of most people here is that politicians are all liars and will do what they please once they get into office.

Ohh, and I absolutely hate FPTP. I really hope that we get real porportional representation in this country one day.

I hope so too, but if the pathetically weak effort made in the 2007 Ontario referendum is anything to go by, the powers that be won’t allow it to happen. Half the population didn’t even know it was happening.

It wasn’t weak, it was pretty brazenly sabotaged with an amendment inserted at the last minute (and against the express wishes of the constituent assembly) that set the number of PR seats fatally low with no provision made for overhangs.

It seems to me the powers that be demand that the debate be strictly limited to IRV vs FPTP, two systems that are about equally bad as each other, while MMP, the one system that has ever been shown to be an improvement in practice, gets the cold shoulder.
