    Merry Christmas Ian from me and the horde, and may you and yours have a peaceful, prosperous, and healthy New Year.

    Gloria in altissimis Deo et in terra pax in hominibus bonae voluntatis

    Glory to God in the highest: and on earth peace to men of good will.

    By chance this year our Christian adaptation of the pagan rite is topped with a Muslim pictoral icon of the Hebrew word for God. Nothing? Blank? Oh well nothing is like God. And well to you all as well.

    Well, if I’d known this thread would exist, I’d have waited and put my Christmas posts here. 😛

    Once again, The Story of the Other Wise Man, by Henry Van Dyke, from 1895.

    @ Ivory Bill Woodpecker December 25, 2015: It’s been decades since I read that – thanks for the reminder and link. I’ve downloaded the epub file and it’s high on my reading list.

    Lovely story Ivory Bill, thank you for that. Merry Christmas to you.

    And Merry Christmas to you as well, Blizz–although I am confused.

    I wouldn’t have expected you to like this story, since its message seems inconsistent with your expressed political proclivities, which are all I know about you–unless my memory is failing me, and I am confusing you with someone else.

    Mark calls himself a conservative, but apparently Irish conservatives differ greatly from their USAmerican counterparts, as Mark does not seem to believe that the poor are unworthy slackers who deserve their sufferings. This also confuses me.

    The complexity of human psychology confuses me; I sometimes feel like I’m just visiting this planet.

    “Been dazed and confused…” :mrgreen:

    Mark comes from Ireland, and IIRC, Blizz comes from Australia.

    Maybe conservatives outside the USA tend to be decent folks. Maybe it’s only USAmerican conservatives who tend to be hypocritical @$$holes who support the welfare state for themselves, but not for other people–and also hypocritical warmongers who are willing to send other people to die for plutocracy while they sit home with five deferments (hi, Darth Cheney).

    I’ve never had the chance to travel outside the USA (or much within the USA), since I’ve never had enough money. That misfortune probably limits my perspective, which leads back to Ian’s comments about prosperity creating a different mindset than scarcity.

    Ian;

    Thanks again for another good year of commentary.
