The horizon is not so far as we can see, but as far as we can imagine

Interview tonight at 9pm EST

I’ll be talking with Virtually Speaking’s Jay Ackroyd tonight at 9pm EST.  Current plan is to discuss kindness as the base prescription for policy and then talk about the implications of Bill McKibben’s 3 numbers on global warming, but if past episodes are any guide we’ll probably cover more ground.

You can listen here.

  1. Oh cool. Sounds interesting!

Was away during the last post, in which you stated what should be obvious (yet it strangely goes unsaid again and again in our public discourse).

Equally obvious, that our elites and those getting their checks written by elites, benefit from the horrible US health care system, the prison industrial complex, and the glory of permanent war, to name just 3 of your examples. What’s best for the mass of men leading lives of quiet desperation vs. what’s best for a small group of deeply evil men who in any just society would be incaracerated (mind you, with kindess). Regarding prisoners and our poor enemies abroad, how could we justify the trillions spent on prisons and empire if our obvious intent wasn’t creating more prisoners and enemies. Peace and a fraction of our prison population treated with kindness, really Ian, where’s the profit in that!?

I only caught the last 20 min, or so, so hopefully I can retrace the whole thing; but fuckin’ eh on the tit-for-tat. amirite?

LOL. Indeed. More ground was covered.

Nice to hear a voice attached to the writer. Helps immensely in comprehension…

Been a while…thought you and Stirling had spoken too much truth even for Virtually Speaking, which I’d stopped listening to several monts ago.

As always, thanks for speaking true as you see it. I dunno if it’s meaningful, but this is a key site for me, keeps reminding me I’m not insane and not alone in my thoughts.

I always listen to the podcast version, so haven’t heard it yet, but now I have something to listen to on my commute that’s worth listening to.

  8. Great interview. Jay’s a niggler, but you handled it well. There are so many ways all this could go. Maybe we can start a betting pool.

Jay’s a niggler, but you handled it well.
