Bad policy = bad outcomes for ordinary people. Bad outcomes for ordinary people when you control the House, Senate and White House make them figure they should try the other party. (See, 2006, 2008).
Dem politicos need to get this tattooed on their butt, so when they pull their heads out for air, they can’t avoid seeing it.
Good policy = good politics. Wish there were some politicians who remembered that.

With Obama’s speech in Copenhagen all future criticism is moot. He has been lauded by conservatives for Christ’s sake!

Well, that all depends on the relative power of good and evil, doesn’t it? If good’s more powerful (IOW, voters are smart enough to know what’s going on and stay informed), then that’s true. But if evil is more powerful, because it owns the news and most of the campaign finance power, then good policy == bad politics, because soon someone else will be in office.
Clearly, there are times when good policy can overcome those disadvantages, as it would have with a good health care policy, but often times, many people have little idea what’s going on, and don’t seem to care.
But that formula wouldn’t fill their campaign coffers with corporatist cash.
It’ll never happen until we MAKE it happen.

I don’t think you have the incentives right. At this point, incumbency is a bonus, it is not the pay-off.
